Toro Surfcamp is located in a hidden bay on Masokut Island, deep in the heart of the Mentawai Islands, offering access to some of the best waves in the world. Whether you’re looking for hollow barrels, playful walls, or long rippable waves, this area has something for everyone.

Surf Breaks Near Toro Surfcamp:

1. Hideaways

• Distance by boat: ~5 minutes

• Wave Type: Left-hand reef break

• Skill Level: Intermediate to advanced

• Best Conditions: Mid to high tide, SW-W swell, light E-SE winds

 A heavy, hollow left that offers deep barrels over a shallow reef. When it’s on, Hideaways is one of the best waves in the area.


2. Ebay

• Distance by boat: ~15 minutes

• Wave Type: Left-hand reef break

• Skill Level: Intermediate to advanced

• Best Conditions: Mid to high tide, W-SW swell, light E-SE winds

 A fast, powerful wave that throws out deep barrels when the swell is right. A true Mentawai gem, but best suited for surfers who enjoy committing to hollow waves.

3. Pitstops

• Distance by boat: ~15 minutes

• Wave Type: Right-hand reef break

• Skill Level: Beginner to intermediate

• Best Conditions: Mid tide, SW swell, light E winds

A fun, rippable right with a sand-bottom channel. A great option for turns, high-performance surfing, and those who prefer a mellower ride.

4. Beng Bengs

• Distance by boat: ~15 minutes

• Wave Type: Left-hand reef break

• Skill Level: All levels

• Best Conditions: Mid tide, SW-W swell, light SE winds

A playful, forgiving left with a long wall. Great for stylish carves, longboarders, and surfers looking to refine their technique.

5. Bank Vaults

• Distance by boat: ~15 minutes

• Wave Type: Heavy right-hand reef break

• Skill Level: Advanced

• Best Conditions: Mid to high tide, large W-SW swell, light SE winds

A thick, powerful right that delivers some of the heaviest barrels in the Mentawais. Perfect for experienced surfers looking for a serious challenge.

6. Nipussi

• Distance by boat: ~15 minutes

• Wave Type: Right-hand reef break

• Skill Level: Intermediate

• Best Conditions: Mid to high tide, SW swell, light E winds

A fun, easy-going right with a friendly takeoff and multiple sections. Great for turns, long rides, and high-performance surfing.

7. Kandui & Rifles

• Distance by boat: ~20 minutes

• Wave Type: Left (Kandui) & Right (Rifles)

• Skill Level: Advanced

• Best Conditions: Large S-SW swells, light offshore winds

Kandui is one of the fastest left-hand barrels in the world, while Rifles is a long, perfect right that can produce world-class barrels.

Surf Seasons in Masokut Island

Peak Season (May - September)

• Swell: Consistent SW-W swells (6-12 ft)

• Winds: Light offshore trade winds (E-SE)

• Conditions: This is the prime surf season, with frequent long-period groundswells and epic conditions for all levels.


Shoulder Season (March - April & October - November)

• Swell: Mellow SW swells (3-6 ft)

• Winds: Variable, occasional offshore

• Conditions: Fewer crowds, but still plenty of good waves with fun, rippable conditions.


Low Season (December – February)

• Swell: Smaller, less consistent (2-5 ft)

• Winds: Light and variable

• Conditions: More relaxed, with plenty of smaller, fun waves but fewer heavy swells.
